Mercy Hospital is a 170-bed progressive community hospital hospital serving the greater Portland area. Mercy provides topnotch specialty care and its’ affiliated primary care centers offer a comprehensive range of outpatient and home-based healthcare services. Having outgrown their current facilities, and with no room to expand at the current location, Mercy recently finished construction on a state if the art facility on the Fore River in Portland, pictured below. This is an exciting time to join the hospital staff.

With a metro population of 230,000, the Greater Portland area (Portland, South Portland, Westbrook, Cape Elizabeth, Gorham, Falmouth, and Cumberland) is home to almost one quarter of Maine’s total population. Hospital

Located in Ellsworth, Maine Coast Memorial Hospitalis a 64-bed, full-service hospital serving Hancock and western Washington Counties. Opened in 1956, their comprehensive healthcare facility provides emergency, primary and specialty care, acute inpatient, diagnostic, and surgical services.

Maine Coast Memorial Hospital is accredited by The Join Commission, reflecting their commitment to meeting the highest performance standards for patient safety and quality, and has received both national and state recognition for patient safety, outcomes, and patient satisfaction levels.

Hospital:

The Mount Desert Island Hospital organization includes eight regional health centers, an orthopedic clinic, and a hospital-based breast center, all conveniently located to ensure that patients have easy access to quality care. The hospital boasts a medical staff of twenty physicians (with two dozen more on courtesy staff) plus a host of additional providers and has a service area over 10,000.

For over a century, residents and visitors in the MDI region have enjoyed warm, personal care and state-of-the-art services. Today, this hospital provides a wide range of acute and primary care, rehabilitation services and educational programs all driven by community wants and needs. A recently released study shows that MDI Hospital performs better than 97% of hospitals nationwide in the care of heart attack and heart failure patients, and above the national average or better in patient satisfaction categories.

It serves Belfast, with a population of 7,000, and numerous rural communities within a 20-mile or so radius, bringing the hospital’s total service population to about 37,000 Mainers. Many surgical and other sub specialists have joined the medical staff in recent years, and the hospital recently completed a substantial expansion project.

This hospital has a full service, physician staffed 24-hour Emergency Room; a Pulmonary and Sleep Lab; Cardiac Rehabilitation facilities; a Renal Dialysis unit; Maine’s foremost Voice and Swallowing Center for diagnostic testing and speech therapy; and a full array of surgical and specialty services. In the summer of 2005, a new capital campaign was launched to fund the replacement of three OR suites and two procedure rooms.

Southern Maine Medical Center is a 150-bed, not-for-profit, full-service medical center with diagnostic & therapy centers in Saco and Kennebunk with a service area over 65,000. SMMC is accredited by the Joint Commission and is affiliated with the MaineHealth network, an affiliation of hospitals including Maine Medical Center. The Medical Staff of Southern Maine Medical Center consists of approximately 152 active physicians. Home health care is provided by SMMC Visiting Nurses.
