A rural health center in beautiful western Maine seeks a physician to lead the family practice team providing outpatient primary care and preventive services to patients and families of all ages, from newborns to geriatrics. Located in the renowned Rangeley Lakes Region (1 hour northwest of Farmington) – an area that features 110 lakes, ponds, and streams, thousands of acres of wild forests, and abundant wildlife – this office saw nearly 2,000 patients for over 6000 visits last year. Rangeley, a community of just 1300 citizens, is a magnet for nature lovers and recreational enthusiasts, so this practice often stays busy treating visitors who swarm to the area in all seasons. The incoming physician will often be the sole doctor on duty. At times, you will work with and supervise midlevel providers and rotating medical students. Qualified candidates must be comfortable treating patients of all ages, and also with handling urgent care cases which may be presented. Walk-in cases may include sporting injuries resulting from skiing, fishing, hunting, boating and more, so be ready to handle anything from chest pains to fish hook removal. Your salary will be calculated based upon your level of experience. Additional benefits may include such things as a paid malpractice, paid relocation, participation in a pension plan with employer contributions, and possibly some Medical Education Debt Assistance. Paid time off is provided for vacation, holidays and CME. Admissions are referred to Franklin Memorial Hospital (FMH) in Farmington, about 40 miles away. FMH is a terrific, 70-bed acute care institution, JCAHO-accredited, and expanding to better serve 40,000 residents in this picturesque area near Maine’s western mountains. With a progressive, 50-plus member medical staff (including more than 20 primary care providers), FHM is able to provide exemplary service that keeps their patients satisfied. FMH is nationally recognized by the AHA for innovative programs in rural healthcare that provide services to all, regardless of ability to pay. In 2003, FMH was presented with the Carolyn Boone Lewis Living the Vision Award for living the American Hospital Association’s vision of a society of healthy communities where all individuals reach their highest potential for health. Farmington is a convenient and attractive community that is home to 7,000 people, and the branch of the University of Maine hailed by “US News and World Report†as the #1 Public Liberal-Arts College in the country. Just a one hour drive from Rangeley, this charming and growing community offers concerts, lectures, first-run movies, bookstores, and a number of great restaurants, all within easy reach! Many local residents are visual and performing artists, writers or craftspeople who contribute to the cultural and economic life of the region through their work in schools, small businesses, the University of Maine at Farmington, and their home studios. Student groups such as Mt. Blue Voices and Franklin County Fiddlers, and numerous adult bands (of such variety that they include Franco-American folk music, contra-dance music, old-time country, and classic rock 'n' roll) perform at nursing homes and for various community functions. People of all ages exhibit fantastic artwork in area businesses, at Farmington's Art in the Park, and the Franklin County Fair. Just south of Farmington is the town of Wilton, home to an annual Blueberry Festival. Property in the western Mountain region is plentiful, and often very affordable!
