A wonderful opportunity is available for a skilled radiologist to operate a hospital-based practice in Rumford, a historic town in Maine's beautiful western mountains. This is a stunning environment featuring pleasant rural communities, rolling hills and low mountains, fantastic skiing, numerous lakes and streams, and much, much more!

Rumford Hospital is a 49-bed community hospital providing comprehensive primary care and sophisticated diagnostic services, including CT scanning, ultrasound and nuclear medicine. The hospital offers medical surgical nursing services, an obstetrics unit, and ambulatory surgery while maintaining a 24-hour emergency department and ICU. Rumford Hospital serves an area population of about 17,000 residents, and, with the vast recreational offerings of the region, many seasonal visitors and sports enthusiasts as well.

Through its affiliation with the Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) in Lewiston, Maine, Rumford Hospital provides additional services in orthopedics, oncology, pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, neurology, nephrology, infectious diseases, and ENT. CMMC is home to respected Family Practice Residency Program, so there may be an opportunity to work with residents, if desired.

This current radiologist is preparing to retire, which has the hospital seeking the right doctor to take over the reins and run this department full time. There is a potential job-sharing opportunity here, if two physicians are interested in offering coverage on a tag-team type basis. That type of situation could be very attractive to the physicians involved, as you would work in Rumford for 26 weeks, then be free the other half of the year to travel and work on a locums basis, or to enjoy a substantial amount of time off in “Vacationland!”

It is expected that the incoming radiologist will establish a corporation under which to serve area patients. This market will permit a full time operation to net a very competitive income! Arrangements are available to provide the new physician(s) with a guaranteed income, plus paid malpractice, and benefits that may include Medical Education Debt Assistance.

Arrangements will be made to permit time off and a reasonable call schedule. The hospital is now evaluating the installation of a new tele-radiology system to permit coverage to be managed electronically.

This practice performs a high volume of straight diagnostic radiology, plus ultrasound, mammography, and CT. Rumford Hospital estimates the practice will be responsible for the following volume on an annual basis:

General Radiology: 12,000
Nuclear Medicine: 400
CT Scans: 1800
Ultrasounds: 1500
